If you're looking for an easy way to refresh your bedroom, consider updating your bedding. It's amazing how much of a difference new sheets, comforters, and pillows can make in creating a cozy and inviting space.
First, consider the color scheme you want to achieve. Bright, bold colors can add a pop of energy to your room, while softer, more muted tones can create a calming atmosphere. You can also mix and match patterns and textures to add depth and interest to your bedding.
Next, think about the material you want to use. Cotton is a classic choice for sheets and duvet covers, but if you want something a little more luxurious, consider silk.
Finally, don't forget about the details. Adding decorative pillows and throws can give your bed a polished look and make it more comfortable for lounging. Investing in good quality Ogallala pillows and a Hypodown mattress topper for the ultimate in comfort and support.
By updating your bedding, you can transform your bedroom into a cozy retreat that you'll never want to leave.
The most important factor when choosing a pillow is YOU. The purpose of a pillow is to keep your neck in line with your spine. Getting the proper support is important, but too much support will give you a kink in your neck and you’ll be kicking the pillow to the guest room.
If you are petite or have a small frame, a softer pillow gives you the flexibility you need to fill the space between your neck and the mattress. Obviously, someone with a larger frame, will need a firmer pillow UNLESS they are a scruncher.
Scruncher? Yes. People who scrunch their pillows form it into whatever shape they need to fit their frame and sleeping position.
This brings up another important topic: your sleep position. Soft to medium pillows are good for people who sleep on their stomachs or backs because they have less space to fill from their mattress to their head. Firmer pillows help keep the neck in line with the spine for people who sleep on their sides, unless they are a pillow scruncher.
Size matters! Don’t just buy king size pillows because you have a king size bed. You may get some for aesthetics, but when it comes to sleeping, get personal. If you like firm pillows, go for a smaller size like a standard to prevent the fill from moving out from under your head.

Remember, while a mattress enhancer can be helpful, creating a conducive sleep environment and adopting healthy sleep habits are equally crucial for promoting better sleep in the long run.
]]>A milestone anniversary led “Kara” to the thoughtful gift of an Ogallala comforter because, "Nothing says love like Ogallala." Kara’s husband opened the anniversary gift and was confused. Afterall, there was a heatwave going on in Texas, and she got him a down comforter.
Despite the confusion they put the comforter on the bed. Kara goes to the other room to "slip into something more comfortable." When she returns to the bedroom, she discovers her husband is SLEEPING.
After a full, restful night's sleep, her husband turns to her and asks, "Did you turn the air down?" Kara says, "No, it was the Ogallala comforter..." and laughs.
One of our previous ad slogans was, "Bedding so breathable, you don't have to stick your foot out." Our patented Hypodown® is a combination of goose down and milkweed fiber. Milkweed is a hollow fiber that wicks moisture away from your body. The fibers help regulate your body temperature so you don’t have to stick your foot out from under the covers to cool down.
Not only does the addition of milkweed fiber help you sleep better, using milkweed helps fuel the monarch butterfly migration, by protecting the milkweed plant, the only plant the monarch caterpillar will eat.
So, next time you want to find the perfect gift, anniversary or otherwise, remember: "Nothing says love like Ogallala...".
]]>Burdened by the overwhelm of running a business, chasing three children, and trying to hold my marriage together, I had stretched myself too thin. Trying to be everything to everyone created anxiety, tension in my relationships, and possibly depression.
It was time for a change. Using three questions, I improved my attitude and life.
1. What and Who are Most Important? Prioritize.
How could I delegate and elevate other people at work? How could I work in my "Zone of Genius" and let others use theirs? How could I be the best wife and Mom - the ONE job only I can do? How do I set aside time for my girlfriends and relationships that bring me joy? What are my priorities? Who are MY best customers that ONLY I can serve?
2. Who Can do this Task Better than Me? Let Go.
As an entrepreneur, I had to trust my team. I had to get the right people doing the right work that allowed them to shine. While I need to inspect what is expected, I need to get out of my team's way and let them figure out "how". My focus needs to be "who" can get the work done and what resources do they need. How do I let go of people and projects that I care about but no longer fit? Letting go is still a work in progress. Life is a journey and the road is always changing. Can you relate?
3. How do I Create Space and Time? Set Limits.
First, I let go of tasks that no longer served my priorities and/or MY customers: primarily my family, friends, and business.
Secondly, I outsourced tasks that helped make my life easier: weekly meal delivery kits making the proverbial, "What's for dinner?" question, a lot less irritating, plus, my daughter takes pride in following the directions and learning how to cook. Win/Win. In the future, I plan to take my dogs to a "Doggie Daycare" and hire a housekeeping service.
But, the biggest, and most life changing limit I set was on myself.
Being the CEO of a luxury bedding company, Ogallala Comfort, I know the importance of sleep. I had to set limits around MY bedtime routine. My children are to the point that their bedtime is past the one I need to impose on myself. My best sleep comes after a warm bath with sea salts and lavender essential oils. I read a book or listen to Podcast. I write about what I am grateful for and what dreams I have for the future. Reinstating my bedtime routine was my gift to myself AND those around me. When I honor this one limit, the rest of my schedule (and attitude) falls into place.
Sleep is where your body and mind work overtime on opportunities and challenges. Creating a routine each night signals to your mind that it is time to let the body rest and get to work. While you are peacefully resting, your mind is constantly making connections and moving toward resolutions you never would have dreamed of with the daily distractions around you in your waking hours.
Not convinced? According to the National Library of Medicine about insomnia and stress, bedtime routines help reduce anxiety which, in turn, helps you sleep better. Humans have tried throughout history to increase productivity by reducing sleep. While it may seem logical, the reverse is true. Optimizing sleep increases creativity, boosts your mood and decreases anxious thoughts that keep you awake at night.
If the people around you suffer from your "Chronic Crabbiness" due to overwhelm, remember to prioritize, let go, and set limits. A bedtime routine goes a long way to getting you the restorative sleep you need to perform at your best and keep your relationships happy and healthy.
]]>Far too often we settle for less than we deserve. We are too tired to change our routine or improve our situation, so we stop allowing ourselves to reach higher.
Crazy as it may seem, the best way to break out of the monotonous cycle is to get great sleep. We aren’t suggesting getting just 8 hours of sleep and calling it great, but getting 8 relaxing, peaceful, consecutive hours of rest. You shouldn’t have to wake up with a kink in your neck or toss and turn several times throughout the night until you find a position that is somewhat tolerable. It’s time to quit settling for “eh” sleep.
A key piece to finding your best night’s rest is your pillow. It’s so important to keep your neck in line with your spine as you sleep to prevent aches, pains and kinks.
How do you know which pillow is right for you? Answer these questions to ensure you get a pillow that sleeps the way you do.

Add up your numbers to determine which firmness is best suited for you. For example, I am 2., 2., 2., and 3., so my total would be 9 (Firm).
4-6 Points: Soft to Medium
If your score was between four- six points, you are a softy. Pillows with a soft to medium firmness will prevent your head from being raised too high and promote circulation by keeping your neck straight.
7-9 Points: Medium to Firm
If your score was between seven-nine, your sleeping habits require a little more support to keep the neck in line with the spine.
10-12 Points: Firm to Extra Firm
If your score was ten or more, you want a buoyant pillow that provides proper spine alignment.
If you still have questions about which pillow you should select, don’t worry. Contact one of our sleep specialists and they would be happy to assist you.
After all, the lives we lead are directly related not only to the quantity of hours we sleep but the quality. Don’t miss out on all life has to offer by hitting snooze on your best night’s rest.

]]>It’s a good idea to have at least two sets of sheets for each bed in case there is an accident, or the laundry doesn’t get done on time. It’s recommended that sheets be washed once a week or at least every two weeks according to the manufacturer’s instructions. Wash sheets only with other sheets. Other items can wear down the fibers during washing and reduce their lifespan.
Non-toxic mattresses are available in a wide variety of price points and comfort levels (from super firm to super plush). They can also be made with two separate comfort levels if you have a partner who needs a different comfort level.

]]>Why did you choose design?
Cindy: Interior design, fashion, photography and cooking have always been passions of mine and, being raised in a family of entrepreneurs, creativity, imagination and innovation is built in my foundation. When I walk into a room, I immediately take in the colors, the spatial planning, the style and the textures, something that doesn't come naturally to everyone. When one's gift or talent is effortless, its easy to sense that it is not something to waste.
Who/what is your design inspiration?
Cindy: My creative influence is the sea, the sky and the sand, blending soothing and comfortable environments with my clients in mind. I am not one to specifically design based on “trends” but incorporate trends in splashes, color and details - such as in artwork, throws, rugs or accessories.
Who are some of your favorite brands to work with and why?
Cindy: I can wholeheartedly say that Ogallala is one of my favorite luxury brands. Creating luxury style and comfort for my clients in their homes is always rewarding. My clients deserve the best in both product and design. Many of my clients trust me to find rare and luxurious products they would not otherwise find on their own. The highest price doesn’t determine inherent higher quality. The quality of product and natural workmanship is infinitely more important than the price tag every single time. Whether I am designing a model home, a new home purchase or refreshing any existing space that includes bedrooms and or the need for accent pillows Ogallala is my first and only source, (I look no further). After my clients sleep one night in their new beds they buy Ogallala for their other residences.
I design and manufacture custom “Made in America” furniture that is built and manufactured in N.C. and I am so pleased that Ogallala will be manufacturing the inserts for my custom line. I am anticipating a successful joint venture and look forward to offering to my clients who want the very best in design and luxury they deserve and pay for.
How do you choose a brand?
Cindy: I choose a brand by research and experience. I "scour the earth" for luxury, green/sustainable, ideally “Made-in-America” products, wherever possible. It's an added bonus if I can support independent or “family-owned” businesses that are producing impeccable products.
As a designer, you choose décor to fit your client’s taste- but what is your personal style?
Cindy: Ha! My personal style is classic, sophisticated and sexy (never TOO revealing). :) A great designer should always leave room for interpretation in the form of little surprises to leave your client and their audience/guests with conversation starters and ultimately a desire for more of you and an appreciation for great design. My motto is "Live a beautifully designed life” and my tagline for my company is "A luxury and Lifestyle Design Group” because in my book, luxury and lifestyle are complementary.
What is your favorite thing/part of being a designer?
Cindy: It's all about my clients, the people I have the distinct privilege to serve through beautiful, functional design. My greatest reward is my clients' joy and reaction to their new or transformed space. Clients are often very involved in the selection process so their emotional reaction is intensified by my “No Peeking Rule” prior to the design install and I live for the happy tears and joy they express as they experience the reveal.
Clearly, the love between our brands is mutual. I know that I have enjoyed getting to know Cindy Montgomery and hope you take the time to learn more about her and the beautiful spaces she creates. You can read more about Cindy Montgomery through her website at www.montgomerylane.com “A Luxury and Lifestyle Design Group”.

Late night meals and snacks are digested during sleep. So what you choose is important. Greasy, heavy, fatty foods are harder to digest and could keep you awake due to indigestion and even heartburn. Sugary foods spike up your blood sugar and disrupt your natural sleep cycle. Plus drinks with alcohol or caffeine greatly impact the amount of REM deep sleep quality and quantity. It's best to snack on light foods and avoid those types of drinks too close to bedtime.
Here's some tips for great bedtime snacks and what to eat to help you catch the most Zzz's.
It's recommended to eat bedtime snacks containing tryptophan, an amino acid that helps the body make serotonin - a chemical in the brain that aids with sleep. Some foods high in tryptophan include milk, salmon, eggs, poultry, and nuts. Other nutrients to look for to help promote sleep hormones, relax muscles and aid in the sleep process would be calcium, magnesium and vitamin B6. These would be in foods like: bananas, yogurt, kale, avocado, whole grains, quinoa, spinach, apples, and cheese. Plus, don't forget some teas including lavender and chamomile are said to relax muscles and calm your body.
Next time you want to grab for that midnight snack - make sure it's something to help your body get the best sleep possible.]]>If "we are what we repeatedly do", then the repeat action of making your bed every day could help to form good habits in your life. If you can get up and start your day, being proactive & disciplined - think of the other areas of your life those virtues can blend into. This could be why this is one of the required daily tasks in military life - they understand that discipline in the small things matters. There are lots of things in life you can't control, but why not take the reign on the little things you can?
It can also help improve general anxiety and stress and improve your overall mood. A made bed will help your whole bedroom look more put together and clean (or motivate you to keep more of it clean!). Living in a state of disorganization is proven to lead to more stress, whereas taking time to make your bed shows you care about yourself and your home and environment. It truly can help lighten the feeling of being overwhelmed and stressed.
Finally, a made bed is inviting. It seems cleaner (even if you haven't changed your sheets) and will entice you to crawl into bed sooner each night. There's nothing quite like sliding into a freshly made bed with fluffed pillows at the end of a long day.
The Negative:
The case for not making your bed is microscopic in size - namely dust mites. These tiny little "friends" thrive in warm, dark, environments with increased moisture - which describes a made bed. Some say that leaving your bed unmade helps to eliminate the mites by increasing light exposure and decreasing moisture. One could argue that sticking to a schedule of washing your linens ever 1-2 weeks, as recommended, could aid in mite removal as well.
The Best of Both Worlds:
Truly it is a personal preference. There is no scientific proof that one or the other leads to better sleep. So pick a side and hope to rest easy.
We recommend (of course!) that you make your bed with Ogallala. All the benefits and none of the worries. We are hypoallergenic, luxury, organic bedding that sleeps like a dream. Plus the fluffy, lofty look is designed to make your bed look beautiful and also is designed for the perfect sleep.

Using electronic devices before bed delays your body’s natural circadian rhythm or your “internal clock”. All the blue light that these screens give off trick your brain into thinking it should be awake & keep it stimulated instead of letting it wind down with the natural light outside. It also in turn can suppress the amount of melatonin (a sleep inducing hormone) your body is producing, making it more difficult, and taking more time to fall asleep. This in turn impacts the amount and quality of REM sleep you get that night.
So while we may think screen time is relaxing; over time these electronic devices can create poor habits & bad routines for your brain & hormones. Routinely not getting enough quality sleep can then lead to a multitude of other health issues.
Research recommends shutting off electronics at least an hour before bed to help with your best sleep. If that seems hard to do, gradually work your way there in increments until you no longer feel the need for your electronics that close to bedtime.
Such small devices can make a huge impact on your sleep & ultimately your health & well being.
The notifications can wait. That next episode will be there tomorrow. Your ebook will stay bookmarked. Give your thumb a rest from all the app scrolling & give your body the rest it needs.
Unplug. Unwind. Renew. Start making good choices for better sleep.

]]>Here’s a quick overview to help you see the difference between down bedding and down alternatives.
Down alternative comforters are stuffed with synthetic materials like polyester; and sometimes natural materials like silk, rayon, or cotton.
While they are typically less expensive, down alternatives have several drawbacks when considering them for your bedroom.
Disadvantages of Down Alternatives
• Tends to stick to perspiring skin
• Not as breathable
• Temperature sensitive
• Subject to dye migration
• Can cause skin irritation
• Prone to static & piling
• Fiber stiffens as it ages
Plus, in order to be at the same warmth level of a traditional down comforter, down alternatives must use MORE synthetic filling - making them the heavier of the two options.
Traditional Down comforters are filled with the insulating layer of “fluff” found under the feathers of ducks & geese.
Down comforters are known for their lofty look and superior levels of warmth. A down-filled comforter offers a great deal of warmth with minimal weight, and it is also breathable, a quality that helps it to wick moisture off your body to keep you warmer and more comfortable. Man-made fibers cannot match the natural insulating qualities of down, so traditional down comforters have superior warmth compared to synthetic bedding.
Disadvantages of a Traditional Down Comforter
• Not Hypoallergenic
• More Expensive
That’s where Ogallala Comfort Company bridged the gap by creating a naturally hypoallergenic product…
Ogallala Bedding is filled with a blend of goose down & milkweed fibers. These natural, hollow fibers keep you warm and transfer moisture away from your body while they trap and suppress allergens found in down that cause allergic reactions; making the product naturally hypoallergenic. The Ogallala Blend is so breathable, you may not even have to stick your foot out from under the covers!
Advantages of Ogallala Bedding
• Regulates Body Temperature
• More Breathability than traditional down
• Aids in Protecting & Preserving Monarch Butterfly Habitat
• Renewable /Recyclable / Eco-Friendly
• Hand-Made / Supports Local Small Business
• RDS certified Down
• Naturally Hypoallergenic
• Organic / All Natural/ Chemical & Dye Free
And while Ogallala bedding can be more expensive than down alternatives - it is an investment for your body & health. When you sleep more soundly, you are more productive at work and more pleasant at home!
Experience the Ogallala Difference.
Shopping for a new comforter can be a bit overwhelming with all of the choices on the market. At Ogallala you can't go wrong with any of our luxurious products; but which one is perfect for you? Read our tips on how to choose the comforter that will help you catch the most Zzzz's.
Here's the 411...
What is Down?
Down clusters are the soft, three-dimensional puffs of fluff that form a fine layer under the tougher exterior feathers of a bird. Down acts as a thermal insulator to help keep birds comfortable in any climate. After all, ducks and geese manage to stay toasty warm in cold climates, so why not put that same insulating, cozy warmth to work on your bed?
What About Fill Power?
Fill power is the amount of space one ounce of down will occupy. The larger the down cluster, the higher the fill power is; taking up more space or volume. Therefore, your fluffiness, durability, quality and warmth also improve.
Then What is the Fill Weight?
Unlike fill power, fill weight has to do with how many ounces of down go into the product itself. The higher the number of ounces of down put into a comforter - the warmer, more voluminous, and fluffier your comforter will be. At Ogallala our warmth levels include: Extra Lightweight, Lightweight, and Warm. However, you can also completely customize any comforter to fit your fill preference.
What's In The Box?
A comforter without extra stitching would allow the down to shift, creating lumps and pockets instead of an even spread of fill. To prevent this, we feature two different constructions to keep the down contained evenly.
Baffle box: The most voluminous and generally most luxurious comforters have baffle-box construction. This means there are small fabric baffles constructed in a checkerboard pattern inside the comforter to hold the down in place, while still allowing it to remain lofty and plush.
Sewn-thru Box: Sewn-thru construction is sewn completely through the fabric, creating a secure hold to ensure the down will stay exactly where it is intended to be. A sewn-thru construction is perfect for ultra-lightweight products, like our Flora comforter. The sewn-thru design naturally envelops the down, giving it a light, blanket-like style.”
Thread Count, Counts...
A quality down comforter fabric is light in weight to allow maximum loftiness of the down. It also has to be durable enough to last a long time, yet remain breathable. We recommend that you look for a thread count fabric that is 280 to 485. Anything higher than that number has a greater chance of "leaking" down over time, because the stitching is too finely woven. We prefer fabric that is Oeko-Tex certified. The certification standard assures that the fabric ticking was manufactured to the highest environmental standards in the world. Also note: down comforters labeled "Dry Clean Only" have most likely been finished incorrectly. This means, regardless of the cleaning process, they will probably lose down by "leaking".
We hope this makes it easier for you to choose the best comforter for you! For more questions or specifics, be sure to read our website or contact us - we want to make sure you get the bedding that gives you better sleep.

1. Clean the Clutter - The most important aspect of hosting is to make sure your guests feel welcomed in your home. The best way to make that happen is to have a space set aside specifically for them. Clean out the space of all the junk and clutter - so they feel like they weren't just thrown into your storage room. Then tackle the main areas your guests will visit - bathrooms, the kitchen & sitting/living room areas. You live in your mess and get used to it, but guests notice & will feel much more at home in a clean, organized space.
2. Bedding is Everything - There is nothing more embarrassing than offering your guests a bed dressed in your kid's Ninja Turtle sheets. Grown up guests deserve grown up bedding. First off, we realize the mattress in your guest room is probably the first one you invested in before upgrading for yourself. This is where a mattress topper is a must. These create the fluffy base layer to make sure every guest sinks into sleep. Second, take a look at your flimsy, flat, stained back-up pillows and reconsider. Invest in pillows to pamper your guests; ones that maintain their lofty shape & give your guest room a put-together look. Finally, dress the bedding in soft, clean matching sheets (bonus points for higher thread count). Top with a billowy comforter wrapped in a beautiful duvet cover and your room will rival any luxury hotel.
3. Treat & Pamper - The best feeling is knowing the hostess/host have prepared for your arrival. One way to make sure every guest feels right at home is to make sure all the essentials are provided. Stock the bathroom with mini-sized toiletries ready for their use, in case they forgot anything in packing. Plus don't forget breakfast treats ready in the morning, so when they rise - you'll shine.
4. Think Local - Instead of worrying about preparing a gourmet dinner, we suggest you bring your local cuisine to your guests. The best part of traveling is experiencing new things, and your guests will be thrilled to try what your town has to offer. Order in the dishes all the locals rave about; those meals that don't come from a chain restaurant. It takes the pressure off of you deciding what to make and your guests will get to feel like they got a 'taste' of your city's best. Plus, less dishes in the end!
5. Use Your Senses - It has been proven that the smell of a house can impact how welcoming it feels. Also it has been proven that everyone likes cookies (probably). Keep the easy, ready to bake, store bought cookies around to pop in the oven before guests arrive. That way you'll have sweets ready without much work, and also, the warm scent of dessert to make your place smell like heaven.
6. It's All in the Details - By noticing all the little things, you can elevate your guest's stay from mediocre to perfection. In the guest room, write out your wifi password so your guests don't have to use their device data. If you have pets, be sure to provide a lint roller. Take note of how the light comes in the guest room windows, and if necessary, invest in blackout curtains to insure the best sleeping environment. Get really fancy by stocking current magazine, snacks & bottled water in their room. You'll be the hostess (above and beyond) the mostest!
Follow our advice and your guests will appreciate all the thought you put into their stay - so much so, they may never want to leave. Until you change the wifi password.

10. Exercise During the Day - Both exercising and sleep are key components to a healthy lifestyle, so they go hand in hand. Engaging in 30 minutes of light to moderate exercise during the day can actually help you sleep better at night. It relieves stress, helps regulate your hormones and body cycles, and can get rid of that "jittery" feeling of extra energy at night. Just don't exercise within 1-2 hours before you want to sleep.
9. Use Calming Essential Oils - Engaging your senses can help you find rest. There are several natural scents that have been proven to help aid in restlessness and insomnia with their calming qualities. Try infusing lavender in your bedroom & let the aroma help you drift off to sleep. Other essential oils with relaxing qualities include: bergamot, cedarwood, sandalwood and roman chamomile.
8. Practice Meditation or Deep Breathing - With our busy lifestyles, sometimes the best thing for us is to slow down, take a step back and breathe. Focusing your thoughts while deep breathing helps eliminate anxiety, improves concentration, reduces overall stress & has many other positive benefits for your body, spirit & mind.
7. Create a Worry List or Gratitude Journal - One of the biggest things that keeps us up at night is thinking about what we have going on tomorrow, or thinking about what we didn't accomplish today. By making a list of things you have to-do, or worries on your plate, can help to remove the thoughts from you mind, so you can relax. Don't forget to write down things you are grateful for as well, to make sure you end your day on a positive note.
6. Take a Warm Bath - Let the water wash away the worries of your day. Relaxing in a warm bath or shower can help to relieve stress, aid in relieving sore muscle tension, and soothe a worrisome mind. Plus, nothing beats crawling into bed feeling fresh & clean as you let the comforter wrap around you.
5. Listen to Relaxing Music - It has been proven that music has the ability to ease stress and even reduce depressive thoughts. Listening to music can put you in a good mood and allow your thoughts to be focused on the tune.
4. Stretch or Do Some Light Yoga - To alleviate any tension carried in your muscles try to stretch before you sleep. Light static stretches will help to loosen your muscles and should help you feel more relaxed when you lay in bed. Practicing and holding basic yoga poses can also loosen & relax your body. Try child's pose, butterfly pose, forward bends, happy baby pose, lying or seated twists and savasana.
3. Get in a Nighttime Routine - Just like kids need a bedtime, as adults we should follow suit. Our body will learn to naturally relax and wind down at a set time if we allow ourselves to get in a routine. Even if it means watching one less episode on Netflix, try to schedule so you can get as close to 7-8 hours of sleep per night.
2. Turn off the Screens - Stop scrolling. Stop streaming. Stop emailing, researching, watching tv, and wasting hours on the internet. Give your eyes a break and allow yourself to wind down without the mindless screen time. Most of us would get at least 30 minutes more sleep if we would turn off the screens and close our eyes when we are actually tired. We encourage you to remove the screens, and keep your bedroom a sanctuary for only intimacy and sleep.
1. Quality Bedding - We may be a little biased, but we know the impact that bedding can have on your sleep. We've been helping people dream for over 30 years. We know that quality bedding truly makes all the difference. To decrease your tossing & turning at night, spend time choosing the right pillow and take note of thread counts. You may have to spend a little more money, but you also spend 1/3 of your life sleeping - so shouldn't it be in luxury? Ogallala has the quality bedding that can help you sleep well.

]]>Choosing the wrong pillow can be a real pain in the neck... literally; yet, many of us don't think about improving the hours in which we sleep, like we do the hours we are awake. But investing in quality bedding makes all the difference in helping you wake up truly refreshed.
A key piece to fighting insomnia is to invest in the right pillow. The proper pillow should provide you with strong support and keep your head and neck aligned while you sleep.
We make it easy! Consider the following when you’re ready to find the perfect place to rest your head.
First, you want to take into consideration the way you catch your Zzz's. Like we said, the goal is to keep your spine & neck in a neutral position. The right pillow will create this type of alignment, while an ill-fitting pillow can worsen conditions like neck pain, headaches & even cause arm numbness.
Depending on how you sleep, here are the recommendations for the firmness level of your pillow to create that ideal alignment -
Back Sleepers: Medium
Side Sleepers: Medium to Extra-Firm
Stomach Sleepers: Soft
We will say that these levels are subjective; not everyone will fit these recommended guidelines. While these are suggested firmness levels for different sleep positions, it really depends on the person. The size/stature of each individual person makes an impact as well. For example, someone with broader shoulders or who is larger in stature would probably prefer an Extra Firm to get correct spinal alignment.
At Ogallala, we have something for everyone ranging from Soft to Extra Firm. Plus, if it isn't the perfect match, we have a pillow adjustment service to make sure you are absolutely in love with the way you sleep.
When selecting your pillow, you will also want to take into account the filling of the pillow. We know there are many options out on the market, but none can compare to our patented Ogallala Blend. This unique blend of goose down & milkweed fibers make a naturally hypoallergenic product that traps and suppresses allergens found in down. It also is more breathable, allowing the pillow to wick away moisture as it conforms to the way you sleep. It's natural fill materials are extremely pliable regardless of the firmness level - giving it the perfect lofty, fluffy feeling, that will "bounce back" after use. You will "sink-in" to any of our Ogallala pillows - we imagine it's like sleeping on a cloud.
All pillows are not created equal. They come in all shapes and sizes and vary in firmness. The perfect pillow for you may not be perfect for someone else.
While it may be difficult to invest in a higher quality pillow, the luxury of a more restful night's sleep will make it worth your while. After all, do you want to spend one third of your life tossing & turning? Avoid the nightmare. Let us help you find the pillow of your dreams.
Choose to Sleep Well - Choose Ogallala.

Usually a trip to the city would have me feeling a little leery, but this was just a simple three-and-a-half hour journey to our Capital. I had been there several times before, so it should have been no problem... “should” being the key word there. Thankfully I made it to Lincoln without any problems. I checked into my hotel room without complications, parked, unpacked, and prepared myself for the class to begin the next day.
And that is where all the trouble began.
Day one of my class: I woke up extra early (5:30 am) even though the class didn’t begin until 8:00am, because I didn’t want to be late. After getting ready, and grabbing a quick bite for breakfast, I left for class, located on the University Of Nebraska Lincoln’s college campus. The GPS told me my destination was 10 minutes away, so leaving at 7:15am, a whole 45 minutes early, should give me PLENTY of time to arrive fashionably early. Again, “should.”
I’m in my pickup, with the GPS on my phone, ready to tackle this course –when, my phone starts acting up. The GPS re-routes me down a one-way… the wrong way down a one-way… and I begin to panic. I’m sure there was panicking from those in the oncoming traffic as well. I manage to somehow get going the right way down the street again, and begin to catch my breath a little. I can see the college, and I feel pretty good again, until the GPS has me take a sudden right turn. Now, I find myself on a freeway - that quickly takes me farther from my destination. I can’t get exit the freeway for what seems like forever; and the panic starts to rise again. It’s 7:38 when I finally am able to exit and immediately pull into a Burger King parking lot - where I proceed to cry. I pull myself together, and at 7:46am, I’m back on the freeway headed to the college. At 7:58am, I finally walk into my class… It’s a good thing I left 45 minutes early after all!
I spent the rest of the day enjoying other professional colleague’s ideas and inputs, uncovering customer needs, and evaluating priority segments. I take tons of notes to bring back to our team in Ogallala.
After class I am unsure whether or not to trust my GPS, but I manage to get back to the hotel in one piece. I decide that walking may be the better option for finding a dinner location - so I walk down the street, grab a burger, and call it a night. Hopefully tomorrow will bring me a little better luck.
Day two of my class: Now that I had successfully made it there once, I was able to navigate myself back to class on my own! I left the hotel at 7:15am once again, but this time my commute took me about 10 minutes, so I was extremely early for the lecture. Oh well, at least this gave me time to prepare for the lesson of the day (components of feasible business model) and enjoy conversation with the professor and some of the other students. I enjoyed another full day of learning and obtaining great information with my peers. I got to and from the class without difficulties - surely my bad luck had run out? Or so I hoped!
A great friend of mine lives in Lincoln, so I was excited to be meeting her for dinner. We chose a nice little sushi place close to my hotel, so I wouldn’t have to venture far. I pulled up my GPS, saw that it was a two minute walking distance and took off… but after about ten minutes of walking and not seeing a sushi restaurant anywhere, I questioned if the GPS was right. It wasn’t (of course!). Actually, the restaurant was half a block the other direction. It was literally the next building to my hotel!!! Have I mentioned that directions are not my thing?
Day three of class: At this point, I had found my way to the college quite well. Being early isn’t something I’m used to, since I run late for EVERYTHING, but I was really enjoying having that extra 30 minutes to discuss ideas and marketing tactics before class with the professors.
To say the class was beneficial would be an understatement. It was truly eye-opening and forced me to think outside of the box. I would come up with what I thought was a great idea and then the professor would say “Is that the best route? Do you think that’s original? Is that going to make people notice?” The answer: No. Sometimes we get so focused on what we think would be the quickest, easiest, marketing path and forget that marketing is not an overnight process. We have to build relationships; which in many cases can take months, even years.
I left on that final day of class feeling confident that what I had learned would be valuable to the Brand Refresh we have been working so hard on. As sad as I was that my learning experience was through, I was more than excited to be going home!
(If I could just get navigated out of here…)
Stay tuned for more updates on our New Product Line and the Brand Refresh we are so eager to share with you ☺

The best thing? You can do all of that, with your eyes closed...
5 Ways You Can Give Back While You Sleep:
Monarch butterflies depend upon milkweed during their migration. Protecting and restoring wild milkweed stands in the United States and Canada is the only way to save the magnificent Monarch migration. Habitat restoration is our favorite use for seed and we supply large quantities for land reclamation, highway beautification and smaller quantities for personal butterfly gardens.
As the world’s largest supplier of wild-crafted, sustainably harvested milkweed products and raw materials, we are helping create a larger demand. Growing more Milkweed will help Monarchs survive the destruction of their natural habitats throughout the United States, Mexico, and Canada.
You help our cause by purchasing Milkweed products!
We work with disadvantaged, rural communities and focus on Market Based Conservation in order to protect Monarch Habitat from urban sprawl and modern agriculture. We focus on Monarch Sustainability by helping people feed their families with the money they collect from hand picking milkweed pods.
Monarch caterpillars eat milkweed leaves as their sole food source. By paying people to collect milkweed pods, we create awareness of the monarch's plight and encourage people to protect their natural surroundings.
We firmly believe BOTH Monarchs and people should benefit from a healthy ecosystem.
We hand-craft our luxurious pillows and comforters with the help of Syriaca Clusters - the soft, light clusters that carry the seeds of the milkweed plant. Syriaca is not a synthetic, nor is it used as a down filler. It is the natural fiber from the milkweed plant and is non-treated. Milkweed traps and suppresses allergens found in down that cause allergic reactions; making the product naturally hypo-allergenic.
We also offer consumers confidence in our textiles according to Standard 100 by OEKO-TEX. This means you can rest assured that our products are protected against undesirable harmful substances. We're more than just down - We're luxurious, eco-friendly Hypodown.
Our parent company is Monarch Flyway and our goal is to preserve and help restore natural habitats by using the renewable natural resources around us to better our lives and the planet. Join us on our mission to embrace biodiversity and economic development by using creativity and our favorite renewable, natural resource: milkweed.
Responsible Down Standard safeguards the welfare of geese and ducks that provide down & feathers for the products we all love. Our down is gathered from mature geese after they have been made into a bi-product (they are never live-plucked). We are 100% cruelty-free and, because our products come from a natural source, we want it to stay that way!
So next time your head hits the pillow... Sleep well knowing you are part of the solution when you choose Ogallala.

In today’s society, sleep often takes a backseat to all of our other priorities. The result is a society of insomniacs. In fact, WebMD cites insomnia as Americans’ most common sleep complaint. But there are ways to combat wakefulness without resorting to prescription sleep aids. Here are five home remedies to help you sleep well.
Yoga. Research indicates that yoga or stretching, as well as meditation or deep breathing, can alleviate insomnia. Health.com suggests combining gentle yoga (versus a more energizing type) and simple meditation to get the most bang for your buck.
Aromatherapy. The aforementioned health website also promotes aromatherapy — specifically, lavender — as a natural sleep aid. Inhale the aroma from a couple of drops of minty lavender oil before bed, or lightly spritz lavender on your pillow.
Herbal tea. Another health website, eatingwell.com, touts the benefits of herbal teas, citing the warmth of the liquid as the reason they induce sleepiness. Try chamomile, passionflower or even so-called sleepytime tea.
Bedtime snacks. Having a snack before bed, particularly one that is high in carbs, can increase drowsiness, according to eatingwell.com. If you’re watching your late-night snacking, try for a carb-rich dinner and you should enjoy the same effects.
Lights and temp. The National Sleep Foundation recommends that you cut back the heat and set your thermostat to about 65 degrees Fahrenheit for optimal sleep. Also, make your room as dark as possible, which includes limiting light from electronic devices. Keep them in other parts of the house.
Last but not least, snuggle up with a Ogallala pillow or comforter to experience an incredible, naturally hypoallergenic night's rest. Sleep well with Ogallala Comfort Company. www.ogallalacomfort.com.

Mattress Pads
What are they? Mattress pads fit over your mattress like a fitted sheet, but they have a thin, padded layer that goes over the area where you sleep. Mattress pads are typically used to protect a mattress from stains and wear. They also can help keep sheets in place.
Who needs one? If you’re the owner of a new mattress, you’ll probably want to buy a mattress pad since it’ll help keep the mattress in good shape. Parents with small children who may wet the bed should consider a mattress pad with a waterproof feature. It’ll protect the mattress from getting wet and make cleanup easier. College kids living in dorm rooms are also good candidates for mattress pads since they provide an extra barrier between them and a used mattress.
What are the pros and cons? Mattress pads can protect against wetness, allergens, and even bed bugs! Plus, they’re usually machine-washable. However, don’t expect them to provide much comfort. Mattress pad cushions are usually too thin to provide noticeable support. However, some do have down or memory foam in them.
How much do they cost? Baseline cotton mattress pads usually cost between $30-$40, depending on your mattress size.
Mattress Toppers/Enhancers
What are they? A mattress topper, or mattress enhancer, is a thick cushioned layer that covers the sleeping surface of the mattress and goes under the fitted sheet. They’re usually made from memory foam or filled with down or down alternative. Mattress toppers are designed to make your mattress more comfortable for you—whether that means making the bed surface firmer or softer. Memory foam toppers usually make the sleeping surface firmer while down/down alternative toppers make it softer.
Who needs one? Mattress enhancers are a less expensive option than replacing an entire mattress when it starts to become uncomfortable. If you have aches and pains during the night, a mattress enhancer can help cushion pressure points or give your body extra support. Memory foam mattress toppers reduce mattress movement if your sleep is often disturbed by your partner shifting sleep positions or getting out of bed during the night. They’re also great if you just want to make your bed more comfortable.
What are the pros and cons? Mattress toppers are usually less expensive than replacing an entire mattress, but they’re more expensive than a mattress pad. They also provide more comfort and support than a mattress pad. However, home experts warn memory foam toppers have a tendency to make you feel hotter during the night. Also, most toppers and enhancers are not machine-washable.
How much do they cost? Prices vary depending on size and material.
Featherbeds
What are they? Featherbeds are similar to mattress toppers, but they’re made of goose feathers instead of down or memory foam. Featherbeds usually can go on top of the fitted sheet, so you’re lying directly on it.
Who needs one? Featherbeds are more of a luxury item than an essential one. However, if your mattress is too firm, they can help make it softer. Featherbeds also add warmth if you live in a cold climate.
What are the pros and cons? Featherbeds are easier to take on and off the bed because you’re not having to put a fitted sheet over them. If you have allergies, make sure to buy a hypoallergenic one or try a hypoallergenic mattress enhancer instead. If you live in a warmer climate or get hot at night, feather beds are probably not for you!
How much do they cost? Featherbeds are usually less expensive than a mattress topper, but more expensive than a mattress pad.
Make your bed dreamy with luxury bedding from Ogallala Comfort. Our Hypodown®
down beds will give your mattress the boost in comfort it needs. Our innovative Ogallala® blend combines the finest down and fluffy Syriaca clusters to bring you comfort—naturally!
]]>Before I get too ahead of myself with the glamorous details, I should state that Ogallala Comfort Company is located in Ogallala, Neb., a small ranching community of about 5,000 people. We had quite the adventure traveling to Denver for a professional photoshoot (with models and all!).
Before we hit the road, we had to first, hand-craft each of the prototypes of our new products. Of course, we needed all shapes, sizes, and firmness levels. That is A LOT of product being made! So our production staff set to work to make sure we had all the luxurious pillows & bedding products we needed and they even loaded into the car for us (Thanks guys!). Speaking of our car, Cassie & I had the pleasure of getting to drive the 1994 Chevy Suburban driven by our owners, appropriately nicknamed “The Boat” -- that thing is massive! Also, like a boat, it was a little difficult to steer - Cassie could drastically turn the wheel, yet “The Boat” seemed unmoved. Thankfully, Cassie was the pilot, while I managed the important things - like the music and snacks! Also, thankfully “The Boat” successfully voyaged the 3 hour road trip and landed in Denver. These small town girls had arrived in the Big City!
We headed straight for the photoshoot location, Blanc, to drop off the props and product so that the marketing crew could start setting up. This sounds simple enough, but of course “The Boat” had other plans. Cassie goes to open the back door, but the door doesn’t budge. She pulls and pulls and eventually put one foot on the door, (you know for better leverage), but despite her best efforts… the door just wouldn’t open. Thank goodness for the photography crew - who eventually, after resorting to the use of a crow bar, got the door to open. I guess we sure do know how to make an entrance!
Once, the products and props were unloaded, we took some time to look around the venue. It was absolutely GORGEOUS! Located in the heart of Denver, this venue offers amazing views, and an urban vibe that we don’t get out in western Nebraska.
Finally, we were off to the hotel. We were looking forward to checking in and refreshing after a long day in “The Boat”. Checking in should have been a breeze - but our struggles continued. When I booked the trip, I did so in my boss’s name. At the last minute she was unable to make the trip, leaving Cassie and I to fend for ourselves. Since the reservation was in Debbie’s name, Cassie and I couldn’t just do a quick check-in. Lucky for us, the staff was really great and allowed us to call our boss so she could tell them it was okay for us to have the reservation. Except, Debbie didn’t answer the phone. ☹ After quite some time, and multiple calls, we FINALLY were able to confirm our reservation & head upstairs.
If you think our night ended there… you would be wrong! We were off to dinner with our marketing crew! Instead of pulling up downtown Denver in “The Boat”, we opted to take an Uber. Again, a novelty service not offered back in our neck of the woods. Usually I don’t get in a car with strangers, but I braved it and survived my first Uber experience!
After dinner, Cassie and I decided to explore downtown a bit. We found ourselves at a cute little bar called Beatrice and Woodsley. This place was incredible. There were trees growing inside the building, the seats were made out of logs, and the wall of alcohol bottles was held up by old chainsaws! If you are ever in Denver, I recommend you look it up; it’s so worth the trip!
Now, it’s photoshoot day!!! The photography and marketing team had everything handled, but they still asked our opinions and wanted to be sure we got all the shots we wanted. Which even included the impromptu decision to set up a bed outside, to capture pictures of the beautiful views! We had four bed setups, including this outdoor scene - each with its own unique theme and design. My personal favorite setup was the one with the record player; I’m obsessed with vinyl records!
It didn’t take long and Cassie and I were asking if we could set a bed up outside… now we know that is not where a bed goes, but when the view is that great, you can’t pass up the opportunity!
They shot all the product shots in the morning and by the afternoon, we had puppies and models join in the fun. Frisco, a golden doodle puppy who stole our hearts, can be seen featured in many of our photos. Needless to say, I think every girl there got distracted when he came in ☺ Several hours of re-arranging displays, adjusting for lighting, and making sure the angles were right - and we were done. We packed up our products & left the glamourous day, made an important stop for some Chick-fil-A (also not found anywhere near Ogallala), and waved goodbye to our cute, new, puppy friend, Frisco, in our rearview mirror.
We hope you have enjoyed the sneak peek into our journey and be sure to keep checking in as our brand refresh is really only beginning!

]]>My days with OCC consisted of a variety of tasks depending on the day. First, I had to learn about all the products and ventures of the company & familiarize myself with everything going on in the business. I had no idea the process it took to make these luxury bedding products! From picking the milkweed, to blending the Hypodown, ordering the bedding shells, hand-filling each item to fit the customers specifications, hand-sewing the tags, and packaging each order – and those were just the basics! There was much more that happened behind the scenes. Plus, at that time, the company was just beginning the process of marketing and selling their Milkweed Balm, which has since become a whole other segment of the company!
I helped conduct market research for our various products & tried to help find places or people that could help advance our sales. I also helped with our social media at the very beginning (I’m talking less than 300 likes!) and assisted our Sales Manager, Chanielle with other sales projects. I helped gather & design the elements for our booth that we were taking to trade shows that year, and also organized and cleaned the office, storage rooms, and store front. To this day I can thank the OCC for my box taping skills – as I helped package & ship items in production every day. As a high school student, I got to sit in on office meetings, listen to conference calls & learn the overall workings of a small business.
Above all, the best thing about working at OCC were the people. We had a small team back then and it was fun to work with, and get to know every one of them. They sent me off to college, kept up on Facebook, and some even came to my wedding just this last year. Bonus: luxury pillows as a wedding gift! J Also, they liked me enough to let me come back & work for them out of my home! I currently help as a social media assistant – helping with Facebook and handling daily Instagram posts.
So I may have set out to find just a summer internship, but I found much more than that. I found a company that cares about its employees & people that make you feel like you’re part of a family.
